Paper Names is a body of work by Jess Young, that focuses on craft as a healing process. By utilizing The National Archive of San Francisco, familial materials, and found photos, she is able to retell alternative American histories. Her relationship to images and cultural objects are sources for the generational memory that links her work to the past. She combines the inherently progressive nature of handcrafted ceramics and quilt making as a contemporary mode of storytelling. A patchwork narrative that rejects racial binaries as a solidified representation of mixed identity.
